Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma enrolled at the Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor by the age of six. Over the course of several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. In a school play and an Stagecoach show, she was her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaption to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was found by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having eight straight auditions. Emma's first appearance on the big screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. The film set records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and became the top-grossing movie of 2001. Critics have praised both the film, as well as the performances by the three young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a popular British newspaper, was awed by her for her exceptional performance. Emma later won five awards to honor her role in the film.
